Library Mission Statement & Policies

The Fairfax Community Library serves both the citizens of Fairfax as well as the students, faculty and staff of Bellows Free Academy. We are committed to assisting and encouraging all community members in their endeavor for self-education and/or recreational reading. The library supports the curriculum of Bellows Free Academy. The library provides the community with materials, reference services and programs, functioning as a center for reliable information. For a complete set of library policies, please contact us.

The Library is governed by an elected Board of Trustees consisting of 5 members. In addition, becasue we are a combined school and public library, there is a Working Committee which includes Trustees, and representatives from the school and Select Board. Current Trustees are Deb Warner, Chair; Pastor Elizabeth Griffin, Pat McNall, Toni Jiwatram, and Judy Cleary.

Reserving space at the Fairfax Community Library

The Fairfax Community Library has a variety of spaces available to the school and the public for meetings, tutoring, classes, programs, events, etc. The  spaces can be reserved for times when the library is open or when it is not open, following the procedures below:

To request use of a space during library open hours, contact the library staff.  First come first served.  Availability dependent on library class and program schedules.

Fairfax Meeting Room: Has one large table and 8 chairs. Holds a maximum of 10 people. Non-nut containing food is allowed in the Fairfax room. We ask you to notify the librarians if you plan to have food.

Rocking Chair area:  Provides seating in a circle for up to 12.

Reference area:  With digital projector and screen, tables and chairs for up to about 18 people.

Main open area of the library:  Can be rearranged to accommodate larger gatherings of about 50 people with table and chairs or open space.
